Argento Media works with a number of clients on their search engine optimisation and from time to time we like to highlight some of the successes we have had. One such client is professional military artist, Mark Littlejohn. Mark commissioned Argento Media to work on his personal website and a new online military art gallery called The Colours Call. After designing and developing the two websites the next stage was to put together an effective search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy. Although the military art niche is relatively small it is highly competitive and we were competing with websites that had been in Google’s index for a considerable amount of time.
The first step was to conduct some thorough keyword research to see what were the most trafficed keyword phrases in this particular niche. It soon became apparent that our main keyword phrases should be military art, military aviation art and military artist. Whilst there were plenty of “long-tale” keyword phrases we knew getting traffic for these wouldn’t be a problem with careful on-page optimisation techniques.
Argento Media carefully constructed each website so that is was tightly organised into themes and placed particular importance on “on-page” keyword optimisation as well as submitting a Google SiteMap and building a regular visitor site-map in order to provide a strong internal link structure. After this initial phase we conducted a reciprocal linking campaign to further improve search engine results. We have highlighted some of our results below.
High Ranking Keywords

This was our main target phrase as it had the most traffic and within a few months we were making significant progress in Google, yahoo and MSN search engines. With careful monitoring and optimisation we have kept Marklittlejohn.com on the first page of Google for around 18 months.

The keyword phrase “military artist” has proved equally valuable to Mark and he has gained valuable commissions for his work through internet enquiries as a result of being highly visible for this phrase. He currently ranks no 4 in Google.

The following phrase is a typical example of a long tail phrase that we have been able to achieve high rankings for. Currently www.military-art.co.uk ranks no 1 for this phrase.

This high level of visibility in Google especially has increased online sales dramatically over the last 12 months and has also increased the amount of e-newsletter sign ups which is a crucial factor in building customer relationships.
